28/02/99 ================================================================ Title : Sodium, or possibly "Big Brother is Watching You" Filename : sodium.bsp Game : Half-life Teamplay Author : David Harrison (aka [FLF]Goliath) Email Address : david@harriben.demon.co.uk Description : A warehouse with a rustmill-style bunker and a camera security system, surrounded by nightime slum area, subway corridors, apartment block, etc. Additional Credits to : Valve, specifically Harry E. Teasley for his advice on using cameras. The makers of Worldcraft (hey - that's Valve, isn't it? Thanks Valve :) Thanks to Sojorn for the map 'Quarry' - whose lift premise I stole observing his lift in action, and then doing some tinkering of my own.... Finally thanks to the whole of the FLF clan for help playtesting this map in both DM and teamplay. You got to play it first! ================================================================ * Play Information * Single Player : Yes, but no monsters Cooperative : See single player Deathmatch : feel free to try 2-10 if you like, but as this map was designed with Teamplay in mind, it probably won't work that well. Teamplay : should work best with two teams of 5-6 players each. Difficulty Settings : No New Sounds : No New Graphics : None New Music : None ================================================================ * Construction * Base : New level from scratch. Didn't even use ant prefabs, come to think of it.... Editor(s) used : Worldcraft (off of the HL CD) Known Bugs : None that I know of Build Time : 2 months or so, on and off Notes See the "READMEFIRST!!" TXT for info on this map's special features, and on installation. The decision to make this map was based on some initial ideas to make a DM map with an inner city, gritty ambience like for an Actionquake2 map, which I think has come out quite well :) This idea mutated when Rustmill (a good Teamplay map) and Enraged (a damn good-looking DM map which I haven't played as much as I'd have liked to) were released. Rustmill pretty much immediately persuaded me to turn sodium into a teamplay map, using the same sort of bunker idea. Enraged woke me up to the sort of brilliant effects that can be achieved with good architecture and lighting. I didn't want to simply make a copy of Rustmill, though, as there would be little point. Also, I had read a review (by Radium) of the map, which highlighted the map's flaws (of which there are several), and made me realise that there were in fact several ways the premise of the map could be improved (ideas which I had also recieved by listening to other people's opinions - thanks guys :). I hope sodium solves several of these problems without creating too many new ones..... * Copyright / Permissions * Authors MAY NOT use this level as a base to build additional levels without asking really nicely and/or giving me large sums of money. No decompiling bits of the map without my permission, either (mail me and I'll give permission, but I'd like to know) This BSP may be distributed ONLY over the Internet and/or BBS systems, and only with this TXT file AND the READMEFIRST!!.TXT The WAD file contained within this ZIP (s_cam.wad), contains textures which would serve no purpose in any map other than this one, and are therefore put up for free use by level designers. REMEMBER the WAD must be present in the /Valve directory in the Half-life directory for the level to load properly. You are not authorized to put this BSP on any CD or distribute it in any way without my permission. Didn't I mention large sums of money?
