15th November 2001 ================================================================ Model Name : Wookiee installation directory : Sierra/Half-Life/Valve/models/player/Wookiee Author : Danno Skin Author : Danno Email Address : gunferhire@hotmail.com Model description : A Deathmatch Model for Half-Life Other info : Dear Disclaimer, This is my first game model so expect some imperfections. I thought a wookie would be a good first model to work on since he is mostly fur and the mapping would be a little more forgiving for a newbie. If I had to critique my own attempt at this wookiee, I'd say that he needs more work on the backside of the model and hands - especially the back of his head I got pretty scurvy on the polys there. Perhaps I spent some precious polys in some un-necessary spots and also an second, independant BMP for the head/face would have been cool. Oh well, live it, learn it. And man did I learn a lot from creating this! My priority with this model was a low polycount. The challenge was to make a semi-decent looking wookiee that was a lightweight on the polys. Not the prettiest wookiee on the block, but for 508 polys (if my counter reads right) I think he scrubbed up OK. As a newbie modeller, I took the pelvis from Gordon and worked from there to create the rest of the model. Being new to game modelling, I found myself researching a LOT about how to actually go from a mesh to a working Half-Life model - there are so many more steps invovled in taking a model and making it game ready than I initally thought...and in the end, most of the info I needed to pull this off was gleamed at the Polycount, Wavelength and Valve websites. Thanks to everyone at these sites for their efforts - truly. I really wanted to learn how to do this and I honestly couldn't have done this without your dedication to providing the info. Another invaluable source of information and rotten tomatoes were the guys at #wavelength on irc. (Thanks RaT, MoJo_JoJo, Agent_Rizo & Tex for the tips and advice). Hope you enjoy this model and look out for more to come from me. And remember to always groom your wookiee. Love, Danno ================================================================ * Play Information * New Sounds : No CTF Skins : No VWEP Support : Not Sure * Construction * Poly Count : 508 (I think) Vert Count : Not Sure, Sorry Skin Count : 1 Base : New Model Editor used : 3DS Max, Photoshop, Known Bugs : Hands are a little wonky on some weapons Build/Animation time : Many moons * How to use this model * Unzip to your valve/models/player/ folder (make a new /wookiee folder if you have to) Final folder tree should look like ../valve/models/player/wookiee * Copyright / Permissions * Gordons pelvis is copyright of Valve and Sierra no doubt. I think the word "wookiee" is probably owned, registered and trademarked by George. SO don't go selling this model to any kids on the corner. Feel free to use this model for your own enjoyment but don't use it in any commercial mods unless you really want Lucas Arts to sue you.
